Jasmine Gill's article "Cooking Up Happiness" is an interesting one. I like how she shows that she doesn't speak her father's language, which is Indian, by describing it as "gibberish." The author also explains that her mother is Mexican and doesn't speak Indian either. Because the author's mother is a different race, the father's family doesn't believe she has what it takes to be married to an Indian man. It's also interesting how the author uses language as a symbol of approval. The Indian family was able to speak English but they never did in order to keep the mother out of conversations. But after the mother prepares a well cooked Indian meal, everyone began to speak English and embrace each other. Thank you Jasmine for the entertaining article.
