I disagree strongly with Leilani Osmundson’s review of The Selection series when she says it is no more than a romance story. While she says it is “taking everything amazing about the ‘Hunger Games’ and ruining it” I saw the series as a reflection of its same ideal. While the Selection is more romance centered than the Hunger Games, as intended by Kiera Cass, both satirize dictatorial governments and go against the idea of a spoiled aristocracy that prosper on the backs of hard working poor. America, the protagonist, fights for these ideals in the heart of the monarch’s kingdom, competes with 34 other girls to stay there, makes alliances with rebels, and still conflicts with where her heart truly lies in two men. Thank you for your thoughtful review, Leilani, but if that doesn’t sound like action, I recommend you reread the series.
