Feedback on Egg Salad Sandwiches
"Egg Salad Sandwiches" by Caroline O. is a short story piece about the government tracking what their citizens eat. Every new day is accompanied by a banned food–no eggs on Tuesday. No potatoes on Wednesday. It was thought-provoking and beautifully done. It sets a thought provoking conversation about society's stance on fat shaming and "healthy eating."
I have an unhealthy relationship with food. I eat too much and then I eat too little. I eat too little, and then get rid of too much. This short story made me feel a mixure of relief and a slight, creeping terror. If it were real, who would I even relate to? Not Mattie, an independant girl who is unafraid of other's opinions. It scares me to accept that I'd be most like Cecilia, who will do whatever it takes to be socially accepted. "Egg Salad Sandwiches" is a story anyone who lives in this generation can relate to.
