My REAL family

“So that’s not your REAL family?”

I get asked that question a lot when I tell people I’m adopted. Let me ask you a question, how do you define the meaning of family. I define family as people who are always there for you, people you have known all you life and love you very, very much. So when I tell people that I’m adopted, for some reason they think that my family is not my “real” family. If you mean that they’re not biologically related to me, then yes. I say biologically related because those people are strangers, I don’t know them. They’re not people I know let alone family. So when people ask me “So that’s not your REAL family?” I tell them no, they are my real family. At least that’s what I think. What do you think?

im adopted to and i know how you understand. When I talk about my biological parents i ALWAYS refer to them as my "real parents." I'm marked different because of that and the simple choice of a judge.
