Got Ambition?

Have you ever met someone who isn’t motivated to do anything? Someone who goes through life not trying to do anything productive with their possible talents? I have met quite a few of people like this and this quality in them agitates me.

Now it might seem quite meddlesome of me to be agitated by what someone does with their life since I have no control over it. However, since I am the type of person who truly despises wasting time, I can’t help but to be bothered when I see someone wasting time. Now if you’re someone like me you’ll also be bothered by these types of people. Those of you who aren’t may still be muddled on why I am bothered or what I even mean when I say “wasting time”. So for clarification, allow me to elaborate.

These people I refer to are not very seldom. We see them and possibly interact with them
throughout life, in the adolescent years that I am currently in, I most often see them in school.
These people are quite easy to spot in school since they are the ones who do nothing or very
close to nothing. Instead they spend their time in class sleeping, texting, gazing out the window,
attempting to spark conversations with others and etc. We typically call these people “lazy”.
From the description of their actions in school, it’s quite obvious to tell that their no teacher’s pet
and are often frowned upon by excelling students.  However are these people, or more
specifically students truly lazy or just oblivious to the true concept of ambition? If they are
oblivious then does that make it right to frown upon them?

Furthermore, I feel as though not all adolescents who behave in this lazy manner are truly
lazy. In fact I feel as though most are misunderstood. If we remind ourselves that the adolescent
stage in our life is filled with a rollercoaster of emotions and learning how to deal with actual
problems then it can help us get an understanding of why a teen may behave like this. Often
times these types of adolescents don’t think to much about their future because they don’t realize
that what they do now affects them later on in life. Other times, these types of teens may behave
this way because of the large adversities they may be facing this early in life. This can cause
teens facing this to take focus away from their future since they are busy tryingto get through
these rough impediments. In rare cases for the society we live in today, a teen may act this way
because of the combination of the large adversities they are facing as well as the lack of
awareness that what they do now will affect their future.

However, whatever may be the case for why an adolescent may behave this way, I do
know of some possible solutions to end their behavior no matter what the reason may be. The
best way to help these adolescents is to first inform them that what they do now drastically
affects their future and also encourage them to create high goals for them to meet and live bright
futures. But how do we know that this solution works? Well just look at key qualities in
excelling students for assurance, excelling students are usually aware that their current actions
affect their future ,and usually received encouragement in the past to aim for bright futures and
this is what motivated them to be excelling students. What has been done to these excelling
students can be done to these adolescents, all that it takes is friendly encouragement from others
and a creation of a sense of awareness to take an adolescent out of this “lazy” manner.

I was inspired to write this piece because of people who dont really motivate themselves to work for a bright future.
