Dream Career
My dream job is one that takes hard work, perseverance, and time and the benefits and experience I gain from this job are why I am so interested in it. I want to work for the Department of Public Works. My dad works for the Village of Hartland for the last 25 years and he regrets not applying for the job sooner right when he got out of high school. But he does not regret anything else. He was promoted to a Director of Public Works position in the last couple of years. He says the best part about the job is the benefits and opportunities for more pay. He has a pension plan for retirement provided to all the workers at the DPW and if he works for 30 years he can retire no matter his age because his pension will be full. After he retires he also gets continually paid a salary of his highest 3 years of pay so if he made $90,000 one year, $92,000 the next, and $94,000 dollars the next year he would get paid $92,000 every year for the rest of his life after retirement. This retirement plan is one of the best in the country. Another perk is the insurance and coverage you get for working at the DPW is very good. And I enjoy working outside and fixing stuff and running machinery so I am really striving to get a job at a DPW. I am going to get my CDL for running equipment and the trucks so I can get this job. When I get my CDL I will have a very high chance of getting a job in a department of public works because there is a very big demand for people with a CDL and nobody wants to do it anymore. The Starting wage for a new employee at the Village of Hartland DPW is about $26 an hour starting with pay raises after a certain amount of time. They also have overtime including weekends, holidays, snow plowing and many other overtime opportunities. Another benefit is paid vacations. The only qualifications as of right now are having a valid CDL license, passing a background check, and passing a drug test.
