War Crimes and War Criminals
A war crime is when an action carried out during the conduct of a war violates accepted international rules of war. War criminals are not punished enough. The International Court of Crimes (ICC) is silent when it comes to major powers and non-state actors, who commit crimes against humanity and are not fair with punishments.
Starting with, The ICC is silent when it comes to major powers and non-state actors, who commit crimes against humanity and are not fair with punishment. An article “Lack of International Accountability Has Emboldened War Crimes”, States “Hundreds of unarmed protesters were gunned down in Iran in 2019, but little has been done to account for those killings.” This proves that the ICC is not doing enough to help innocent people little yet punish the people that killed innocent people. Another piece of evidence from the article “Lack of International Accountability Has Emboldened War Crimes”, is “It would be a mistake to think of these events as isolated incidents; they appear to be part of a global trend.” This shows that there is a growing pattern and the ICC is doing nothing to stop growing problems. My last piece of evidence comes from the article “Those Guilty of War Crimes Must Be Punished” it states “violation of international law as set out in the Nuremberg principles”.
Finally, The ICC is not fair with punishment. Evidence from the article “Those Guilty of War Crimes Must be Punished” is “ ICC Judges have powers to impose prison sentences up to 30 years” , “ international law does not impose a penalty for an act which constitutes a crime under international law” and finally “ the most fundamental challenge for any International legal system which wishes to mitigate the surfacing of children in war is to ensure their very survival” all three pieces of evidence show that the ICC is not doing enough to protect and punish war crimes.
In conclusion, ICC judges are not doing enough to punish criminals, because the ICC is silent when it comes to major powers and non-state actors, who commit crimes against humanity and are not giveing fair punishments.
