As society has progressed, there have been many innovations that have made everyday life easier for people. One innovation that has become quite controversial is artificial intelligence. AI has the ability to write an entire paper on a historical figure or even solve a complex math problem in seconds. While there are many benefits that are provided by AI, there are also several negatives. The ability of artificial intelligence to automate many monotonous tasks will greatly improve many aspects of production and research; however, artificial intelligence will also negatively impact society because it can lead to invasion of privacy..

            Over the past few years, AI has begun infringing on people’s right to privacy. It has been used in ways that many feel are inappropriate. According to the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, “74% of people around the world still express concern about their data” (Pearce). People all over the world are worried about how their information is being gathered and used. They are bothered by the fact that there are companies who pool information to garner more specific data on their customers. Companies use the information to advertise their products to a very specific target audience. The people whose information is being used feel uncomfortable because of the invasion of privacy caused by artificial intelligence. While there are certainly downsides to the increased use of AI, there are also many positives.

            One benefit of artificial intelligence is its ability to automate many tasks. Automation can improve the speed of research and production. According to Western Governors University, “Information that would have taken months to collect now can be done in minutes, if not seconds” (“All the Benefits Of Artificial Intelligence). AI has made possible for businesses to drastically improve the rate at which they produce their products or perform their services. The ability to garner a plethora of information in mere seconds is invaluable to companies. Companies save time and money when using AI to complete tedious, everyday tasks.

            Overall, AI allows businesses to run much more efficiently, but it is also capable of invading on people’s privacy. While artificial intelligence has several positives and negatives, it is here to stay whether people like it or not.
