The Stage
The magical feeling I get when I dance is multiplied when I’m on stage. The lights shine, your friends cheer you on and you know you’re making your parents proud even if you mess up. You know this what you have been working towards, 10 hours a week for the past 35 weeks. There have been bruises and sore muscles and having three hours of homework when you get home at 9pm.You have spent all day doing hair and make-up and preparing. All the hard work pays off. The pre-recital jitters are always there, the fear when you’re backstage and you suddenly can’t remember your dance. It all goes away, as soon as you get on the stage and do that first move. You don’t notice the two bottles of hairspray in your hair and your bruised knee, you just dance. The lights and all eyes are on you and almost have to keep yourself from jumping up and down in excitement. You also always have that one amazing dance that is so together and perfect everyone knows you could never duplicate it in the dance studio. The way the younger kids look at you after you do your dances is a look of admiration and inspiration, like they can’t wait to be you. Then you think back to when you were younger and you had that same look.
