Did you know that our schools are ages behind our society. We use ages old text books and technology that I’m thinking my mom would have used. It becomes increasingly difficult to learn in a way that fits kids today when we us supplies that fit kids twenty years ago. A school should prepare you for life afterwards. I o not understand how using things that will be classified as antiques the day we graduate.

I have been researching the topic of education for our 8th grade culminating project. Some key things I’ve learned about it are that charter schools have a 37% better test score rate and that isn’t ok. Also I learned were how our current system was started during the space race how we focus on science and math. Also for high school reading we rank 12 over all the countries when we could be first. We rank 16 in math overall and 21 in advanced physics.

I wonder when the day will come that a new high school or college graduate won’t have to worry about the fact that we have not been prepared for the truth of our lives ahead of us. What will happen when I am driving and the battery dies and I have no clue how to fix it? All schools do is fill you with knowledge that won’t help and conform to the capitalistic society that is preventing our society from progressing to the place where we are the number one country in everything which includes education.

One other impactful aspect of the topic I explored described how we bow down to the private schools like the holy order schools that decimate our schools test scores and make our students self concuss of their brilliance. A public school student should be taught in a way where they are equal to the more affluent children. Each person should be prepared for what truly is out there. Just the luck of your parents being rich should not dictate your life and prevent you from reaching your true potential.
.
This has shown me there is a long way to go for us to be a true competitive in the world. We are a good ways behind top competitors being around 15th in the world. It’s not the fault of our kids or even the teachers, it’s the way we are set up. Our whole system is built on the way society used to be but that society has totally changed. We have phones that are touch screen and allow us to game miles away from home. Our world is rapidly changing and our education should change with it.

I think the way I want this project to impact me is by my personal knowledge is greatly increased. I now can spread the knowledge of our issues. People need to know how they can help our next generation by providing a way to give them a voice. Our kids don’t get to say what they truly feel. Kids are always scared to speak their minds in fear of being ridiculed by their peers and even their parents. That is not acceptable! Children are some of the greatest minds on our great earth.
