Mrs. Carol Niemczyk
I remember elementary school at Merton, and how painful a large majority of it was. Having an abusive father really dampened the “childhood experience” kids are supposed to have, and at times made me question a lot of things in my life. I have tried my best over the years to forget, but it is a part of who I am and I have come to see good from the trials I have faced. It is safe to say I would not be who I am today without some key people that have helped me throughout my years. One of the biggest influences that has ever entered my life to this day, Mrs. Niemczyk, is you.
One thing I remember clear as day, was when I had to leave during the Valentine’s Day party in your fourth grade class. I had to go to one of the many appointments I had during that time because of everything going on at home, but all I cared about in that moment was having ice cream with my friends. I got so upset and tired of my situation. I hated having to meet with all of these people from court who I didn’t know, and in that moment I felt myself breaking. You knew everything that was going on at home, and why I had to leave. You made me the biggest ice cream bowl I’ve ever seen to take with me, and gave me the biggest, most genuine hug I can remember receiving. In that moment, everything was better. Your kindness triumphed over all that day, I’ll never forget that.
I know I wasn’t the most perfectly behaved kid in middle school, and yet you still took the best care of me. You understood everything that I was going through, and instead of punishing me you helped me. I remember when Matthew and I destroyed each other's projects during class, and you brought us out into the hall. You couldn’t help but laugh at the pure stupidity you had just witnessed. It was the little things like that, that kept a smile on my face.
Behind closed doors I had no idea how much you were really helping my situation, in ways at the time I didn’t understand. Now that I can look back and know everything you did, I could never be more grateful. That is a debt I will never be able to repay.
Everyday you kept me in your thoughts, gave me extra help and attention, and picked me up during the worst times. Your kindness, thoughtfulness, and pure care is something I have never forgotten, and will always be thankful for. Thank you, Mrs. Niemczyk, for being a part of who I am today, and helping me get to where I am now. You continue to be one of the biggest influences I‘ve ever had, and I am truly blessed to have you in my life.
