Outstanding Educator of the Year
Outstanding Educator of the Year
Who do we learn mostly from, parents, teachers, or your fellow classmates? In this time of my life teachers are from whom I typically gain knowledge. All teachers do what is best for their students. Of all the teachers in high school, my most inspirational and outstanding teacher is my science teacher, Mr.Tullis. What is about him that inspires me? Mr.Tullis is understandings to me and connects his experiences with mine. I also appreciate the way he teaches and what he does for his cherished students and the school. I believe he should be the educator of the year because of the way he positively affected me as well as others.
As I already stated, what makes a teacher remarkable is the effectiveness of their teaching style. Mr.Tullis make his class takes Cornell notes often. At first I hated it, it wasn't until later that I realize how much taking notes help me. These notes help me process facts quickly into my head. He asks us to review the notes every day, putting every detail we learn into our head. One of the factors that help me the most is that he formulates bell work questions that relate to the upcoming test and he reviews it thoroughly everyday. So every time the test is coming, all we do is review the bell work and the instructed section in textbook to perform well. Not only has he encourages the students to learn more efficiently, he also makes the class fun. We get conduct a variety of experiments and learn by visual and hands' on experiences. From time to time we also got to challenge and quiz ourselves in the game called "Jeopardy". This process makes the students stay active and learn while amusing themselves.
As I stated previously, Mr.Tullis contributes to students’ success at school. Not only has he time for his class periods, also he cooperated with other science teacher to form an organization called Science Olympiad, which formulates young mind in the creation of scientific inventions. This organization brings names to our school by the members winning multiples competitions and advanced to the state level. In addition to that, he also tutors students who are in need of school subject in zero periods.
Due to all of his efforts students have shown improvements on school grades and on enthusiasm of learning.
Equally important, Mr.Tullis is the most inspiring teacher to me because he always shows understanding to me and pays equal attention to all of his students. If your day is ruined he will be the one that makes your day brighter. He will sit beside you and listen to your story to an end. If you forget your homework because of any complications, he will give you a second chance and turn in your school works the next day. Also if you score low on your test/quizzes he'll let you retake the test to improve your score, as long as you are trying really hard. He once stated that "success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed." Addition to that he believes “No student ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him: it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required, which determines the greatness of ultimate distinction”. Due to these inspirational quotes that pushes me beyond the limit.
So think about how your teachers affected you and start appreciating what they make a difference in you. I wake up every morning at 4 A.M and start thinking for an hour, sometimes for two hours. I tried to find out why I have the habit of waking up so early, but finally came to the conclusion that it must be an excitement of school and mostly my first period biology, Mr.Tullis’ class that causes this unusual. To that, my educator of the year is Mr.Tullis, who touches many lives, especially mine.
