The Time I Was Shot
When I was three, I was sleeping and then I heard my brother walking past me then he woke me up. I got up about five minutes later because I heard him playing with something. I walked in my dad's room then, BOOM!!! It went off , I ran down stairs screaming.
My dad and mom woke up and they were terrified. My dad snapped into reality and got a cotton ball, he put it in the hole in my wrist. My mom was calling “911”and she said, “Please come, please come my child was shot!” She was shaking as she was so scared. My brother was freaking out and crying. I felt terrible and was in alot of pain. He shot me with a .243 rifle. When the cops got to my house they put me into an ambulance and gave me some drugs so I could not feel the pain. I passed out and woke up in the hospital and my wrist was fixed and bandaged up. I was in the hospital for about a week and I had to regain movement in my wrist. When I got home I was really sad and I felt bad because my brother was crying from feeling guilty from accidentally shooting me in the wrist.
The police showed up at the house the next day. They spent several hours questioning me and my brother on what had happened. They also questioned my dad about his gun. They removed the gun from the house but he eventually got it back from them.
I continue to have problems with my wrist daily. Writing, typing , and everyday tasks are sometimes difficult. Some days my wrist will randomly hurt and others it feels just as normal as the other one. There are days that I deal with the mental part of this happening, I am angry about it at times. I ask the question at times, “Why did this happen to me?” I also get depressed as the same brother that shot me has now ghosted my family. I think it also affected him mentally.
Life is something that we take for granted. I learned on that day that your life can flash before your eyes. I am grateful that the bullet only hit my hand as it could have been much worse.
