laser tag, a light of freedom
I like corners and tight spaces, it helps me feel alive. normal life suppresses me into a crippled dog who can’t bark, a chick that can fly, or a tiger that can bite. To escape the normals of daily life I get swept towards laser quest. A place that reeks of speed and bright lights but in a dark setting where even the moon can’t illuminate. As I pick up the heavy plastic molded into an intricate model similar to a gun, it shone to me, it glowed and pulsated in my hands setting my thrill to a subtle start. The vest was no different, as the gun was an appetizer, the vest was the main course. Its glow is different per person. It glows saying “I’m here don’t shoot”, or “I’m here, take me on” your choice. Its glow isn’t what changes, it's the mindset of defense or offense, attack or defend, hunter or hunted. This is where my enjoyment arises as my facade evaporates, I let my mind flow, and my thoughts flutter, but ultimately I say “I’m here, and I am not afraid to lose”. Once my blood flows true and my eyes open wide I step into the room with sudden confidence equivalent to a thousand generals winning a war they never intended to battle.
Running to a spot of many advantages you send a few lasers that break the darkness and create a bubble of happiness where you know no one is located and no danger is nearby. The bubble is created in my mind and it only gets bigger as my confidence gets larger and larger, The bubble helps me feel safe because lasers travel fast but not far, similar to a child going past highschool and dropping before college introduced itself. Its quick illumination gives the sight that I crave for, an open path, but my sight is only a glimpse of a second soo acting fast, is all I can rely on. My sprint takes me closer to a spot on the map, with advantages normal positions cannot achieve, but knowledge is always shared, causing my special location to be revealed to the ones who believe in winning. As I face my competitors seeking my special spot, I send my lasers powered by their delight, if hit, or their hatred if missed. Even trough the darkness the devious lasers attempt to break your bubble of happiness as colors of red, blue, or green break your bubble of purple fueling your heart with fear, the fear that your light isn’t brighter, you lasers can shine fairer, the different colors of light that mentally cripples you like your feeling of safety and your deteriorates, but with the power of shooting back, my chains of fear become obliterated, as I fire back and hit the enemies with my retribution, it ascends my mental state to a realm of flight and bliss. My purple lasers turn enemy crossfire into a blossom of confidence. My lasers are just an extension of my confidence; as I pull the trigger, I only pull it knowing that the laser will hit or will alert the attention of an unlucky foe.
The atmosphere keeps me engulfed into a dimension that keeps me alive. I am truly a human and so is everyone else. The way people view others usually by identifying their deficiencies and labeling that as their personality. In Laser tag, the only thing that I am judged on is my skill, and my skill only. Laser Quest was one of the few places where my positive qualities shined as many people there judge you by your entire personality, and not by its defects. Even as we run various lengths or hide in intricate places every place is not different from the other. Boxes for hiding or walls for taking refuge behind, or long corridors with no cover to hide behind. The field is full of different fighting locations it never fails to entertain me. It helps me understand everyone as a whole, it builds their character and I love to analyze it. I say this because everyone chooses a spot on the map for a reason, and that reason is what makes them unique. I love this place, the constant fear I face in the fight area, maps for short, keeps me alive. I feel everything happening in my body from the blood circulation to the sweat and fear running down my head, I feel it. I watch the other fighters fire their laser weapons from locations that appeal to them. The confident headstrong ones hang out near lobbies with no cover and fight openly, showing confidence in whatever they do. Others hiding in corners ready to defend against the enemy, it tells me that such people are ready to take anything on and are people I can trust. Or people like me who just roam the whole building and look for their prey, ready to adapt if the change is required. The people, the lights the laser guns produce, and the amplitude of personality throughout the field is what makes me adore the place.
