I met my girlfriend at my last job last December. We hit it off immediately and became work buddies. We would constantly joke around and annoy me. I would act a little annoyed but she kept joking and flirting. She eventually asked me out and we went to the arcade. We go on several more dates and I eventually ask if she wants to be my girlfriend and she says yes. Two weeks pass, and we are hanging out and I can tell that something is wrong. I ask her what is wrong and she says nothing. I know something is wrong so I keep persisting and she eventually starts opening up to me about it. I let her know that I’m always there for her and she lets me know that she doesn’t want to be a burden.

Around the same time that I found out that she cuts. So to combat her emotions, I would call her and check up on her at random times and I would usually be able to help her calm down. Maybe another two weeks later when we were talking on the phone, she and her dad got into a shouting match. The next thing I know she is yelling for him to get off her and he gut punches her. I was livid. To help her I would just be there for her. And that is also part of the reason why I hate her dad.

Prom rolls around and we both have a great time and we have a campfire after. Within the next week, she is doing horrible and I call her after work. She is at a bridge trying to convince herself to jump. Needless to say, I might have sped badly to get there as fast as I could. I helped and convinced her not to do it and I took her home and made her feel better. This short story just scratches the surface of all of the things that I have done.
