Failed Contact
The scent of food and the sound of music permeates every corner of the house, reminding me it’s Chinese New Year’s Eve again: the most important festival to us. When I was younger, I’d set off firecrackers with my cousins until the stroke of midnight. Our family would come to grandma’s house and play poker while laughing at inside jokes. Now, all these relatives are just a bunch of contacts on my phone. I select all contacts and write “happy new year,” but my finger hovers above the “send” button. For a moment, I consider going to my grandma’s house. Instead, I hit send.
