Commitment
4:30 pm—It was a cold, cloudy winter evening—I was stuck inside the school building to finish work before Christmas break started. My fingers trying to speed the process to finish early but still make sure everything looks presentable. Sticky and tired fingers at hard work cutting and taping paper and tying the green, red, and white strings to the candy canes. It was almost like I was being timed to finish before a big, bright red alarm would start ringing. The shiny Christmas colors flashed throughout the room as I take a final look over all the chocolate sleds. Getting up from the messy table, I carefully take one box at a time to the front office. I look for the teacher mailboxes where I then stress over another thing. Yet, I know that it will all be worth it in the end. Picking up 4 chocolate sleds at a time I place one in each mailbox making sure I didn’t miss one.
6:30 pm—Rushing from campus to campus like a cheetah—using every bit of energy I have left inside me. I keep telling myself I’m almost done, just a little more, and then I can rest. Pushing my way through the freezing wind, I finally make it to the main door. I was afraid I was going to freeze outside for a moment. If I didn’t make it inside I would’ve been the newest Frosty the Snowman. Determined, I walked inside North Campus, finding my way to the office. One look before I continue filling each mailbox with a sweet treat. As I continue, I become very tired, I take a break, and look around once more. Suddenly, I have a boost of energy, something in my mind reminding me, I have to make a name for myself.
7 pm— I finished what I started—a commitment to be better.
