Falling
My heart was beating as hard as a drum and as quick as a hummingbird. I was just trying to take a shortcut home after leaving the gym at 10pm for my nightly workouts. Now, I was running for my life. My sneakers hit the hard concrete as I hear the large figure running behind me. As I turn the corner of an old building, I catch a glimpse of him behind me. A tall dark figure, with his clothes ragged and ripped and I could swear he had a trickle of blood on the side of his gaunt cheek shining in the moonlight. His eyes were so deeply sunken, I couldn’t even see them. The sight was terrifying. I knock over a trash can behind me to delay my chaser; despite the adrenaline of pure terror running through my veins, I start to lose my breath. I needed a place to hide, or to recover at least. I didn’t even have time to think why was this man running after me, I’ve done nothing wrong. Finally, I make a sharp turn to the left where I hide in a construction site for a new pharmacy building. Trying not to hyperventilate or breathe too loudly, I lean against the large pieces of broken concrete to catch my breath. I’ve lost sight of my attacker but I heard slow footsteps kicking the pieces of rubble to the side. He had no need to be quiet, he knew I wasn’t going anywhere. Suddenly I heard him let out a cold, but crazed laugh that sent shivers down my spine. He sounded like he was approaching so I start to slowly back away. I sprint into the building under construction and ran up the stairs. I hear heavy breathing not too far behind me but I had a decent lead. When I get to the rooftop I can’t control my gasp of horror when I see him standing, on the ledge of the roof, facing me. Thats impossible, he was just behind me I thought. The second sight of him was even more horrific. His grim smile showed yellow teeth and a pale, unshaven sunken face with blood running down his cheek. He cornered me so I had nowhere else to run. I was backing up until I was at the very edge of the roof. He finally had me where he wanted me but I didn’t want him to feel the satisfaction of getting the job done. So I leaped off the three story building right above the rubble of cement where I- hit the hard wooden floor of my bedroom, waking up with a cold sweat after falling off my bed.
