Go Yard
A count,
of two and two,
the pitch
coming in,
sweat,
dripping
off me,
I looked,
in sight
of the ball.
A crack,
a nice, smooth crack
ending with a pop,
I dropped the club,
looked up,
to see the sphere.
I watched it
fly,
high,
underneath
was a boy
watching,
too.
Trotting
the bases,
a round,
as three came home,
slapped five to the coach,
and I too followed.
