The long nights of staying up and cheering faded away. As October drew to an end baseball did too, as the Kansas City Royals had just lost in a series deciding game seven. The night of October 29, 2014 was a depressing yet promising night. Even though the Royals had lost, they would be even better in the spring. The Royals took momentum from that game seven and used every ounce of it in the spring.

As I tried to get over the loss, I kept thinking to myself that we were so close to winning. I had never been so proud of my city; they fought to the end and gave it their all. I missed having everyone over at our house to watch the games. I loved running up and down the street as they won each playoff game. As that came to an end, I had to realize that it would be another year before I could do it again.

The next spring was promising as the Royals acquired Kendrys Morales, Edinson Volquez, and other prospects. Going to games and watching the Royals I came to realize this team can make a run in the playoffs. I had fun watching the Royals win hard fought games and battle for first in the division. As they started to pull away from Detroit, the battle for homefield advantage began. The Blue Jays were a very strong team, but the Royals outlasted them to claim home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

I had waited a year to start celebrating again, but before that the Royals had a tough opponent to face in the Houston Astros. The Royals and the Astros traded games until game four, where Houston had a two games to one lead. The Royals were down six heading into the eighth inning. I was on my way home from school listing to the game. When the Royals had the bases loaded and nobody out, I knew they were going to tie the game because of what they had done all year. The Royals plated six runs in the eighth and another two in the ninth to take the lead. With their backs against the wall, six outs away from another heartbreaking season, they found the will to fight back and win the game. They would later have to come from behind and win a crucial series deciding game five.
  I had knew the Royals were good, but this team was special, and they would not stop winning. The parties and celebrating didn’t stop. The Royals now had to face a strong organization, the Toronto Blue Jays. They had been on a tear to end the regular season and we were starting to get nervous. Sitting in our living rooms, glued to our televisions, and biting our nails, we watched the Royals’ beat the Toronto Blue Jays in six games. After the Royals game six win, we headed straight to Academy where we waited for two hours to get our Royals gear. We were headed back to the World Series for the second straight year.

We celebrated and partied for three days, but the Royals still had work to do. The Royals proved they would never give up. They rallied in games one, two, and four to take a commanding three to one series lead over the New York Mets. They rallied in the later innings and proved they would not be denied. In game five of the World Series, Matt Harvey of the Mets pitched a shutout going into the ninth inning. The Mets had a two to zero lead and we were all expecting a game six back in Kansas City. The Royals had other plans. They scratched a run across to make it a two to one ballgame. Eric Hosmer found a way to get on base with one out and eventually made it to third. Royals catcher Salvador Perez came up to bat and hit a chopper to third. David Wright threw the ball to first to get the out, Hosmer dashed for the plate as Wright threw the ball. Lucas Duda receives the throw and throws the ball home to have a play at the plate. Safe. Eric Hosmer and the Royals had tied the game at two in the ninth. In the twelfth inning Jarrod Dyson managed to get on base and he later wielded himself into scoring position. Pinch hitter Christian Colon drove in Dyson to take the lead. At home, Kansas City had come to life as the royals took the lead. We were jumping up and down, yelling and cheering. After that play the Royals never looked back. They scored seven runs in the twelfth inning. I soon came to know the Royals were about to become World Series Champions. When the Royals won we stormed the street, waiving a Royals flag as we celebrated. This team would not go away, and would not be denied.

On the night of November second, everyone in Kansas City and I witnessed history together. The Royals had brought a World Series title back to Kansas City. I could not have been more proud and happy for what the players did this past season. It means a lot to me because we may only get to experience this once every thirty years. The Royals accomplished something they had been trying at for thirty years, and they did it.
