Every morning, I wake up at 7 a.m. to get ready forschool. Our elementary and high schools are in the same building; we have 72 kidsin grades one through twelve.

You can begin to see that Willow City, NorthDakota is a small town. The population is roughly 300 people. Our main streetconsists of two bars (Gus's Place and The Waterhole), one post office, threebanks, a hardware store, a hair parlor called Brenda's Boutique, a Cenex store,and the Willow City Grocery Store.

In New York if people are out andabout, it's not often that they see anyone they know. Here, it's just theopposite. We can tell who's uptown by the cars parked on Main Street. It'sunusual to see anyone you don't know.

Everybody who lives here has alwaysfelt safe, and slept well. That has changed a little in the pastmonths.

Yes, believe it or not, the World Trade Center attacks have evenaffected this small town. We live 70 miles away from an Air Force base, whichmakes us feel pretty insecure.

Eventually Willow City will be back tonormal.

Before I didn't think I liked living in a small town, but sincethese incidents I feel a lot safer.
