Perception
Have you ever wondered why some people are so happy? Have you ever wondered why some people are so sad? Do you wonder if it is fate or if it is something you can master and manipulate? Well I have. I have wondered for so long why my brother is always so happy and how billionaires worked through their struggles. Then it hit me. I could think that someone has an amazing happy life but that doesn't mean they think that too. I could even hate where I am in life but someone out there could love to be me. It was at that moment that I realized that perception is the key.
Life for me used to be getting A’s and a C+ was a failure. Eventually I realized, “why get upset over a letter? I tried my best and I guess I just need to learn more. It isn't the end of the world!” At that moment I displayed the power of perception. I was able to completely avoid being stressed just by changing perspective and looking at the facts that I was taught to ignore subconsciously like the fact that the human body learns from mistakes and that they aren't terrible. That made me wonder, “What is the extent of Perception? Is perception a limited resource or an infinite tool that we all have and can use all the time? Is perception reality or is reality perception?”
If life was meant to be perfect, why do we make mistakes? The answer to this question is, because it wasn't meant to be perfect. I believe that instead of stressing we should learn from our mistakes and even welcome new mistakes. Everyone should keep in mind that a mistake is a lesson to be learned unless it is made again without taking something new away from it, then it becomes a setback. With this in mind, we can do our best to learn from mistakes the first time and not make them again, increasing our value and ability to succeed directly to the amount of our mistakes made. If you aren't moving forward then you aren't moving or you are moving backwards. Keep moving forward! If you fail, fail falling forward.
One day I was working on a group project for school and had asked my brother to use his portable video camera. All was well at first. We got all our video done and had the project finished so we were done with the video camera. I was about to give the camera back to my brother but for some reason it had broken and you could not see a thing on the screen. Eventually, after pondering how to approach my brother with the bad news I told him. I was surprised by how calm he was. He was still mad but he couldn't take it out on me and he knew that for every bad situation, there is something good to come. In the end I adopted his view and strongly believed that he would be repaid for the broken camera and almost magically my mom got him an even better camera. This shows how perception has influence on everything. For example, perception allowed my older brother to keep his cool instead of getting mad. Also, he knew that what he would be repaid in would be equal or in some way greater and he was right.
So what is the extent of perception? Limitless!
