Educator of the Year Nomination
Educator of the Year Nomination
Coffee was the one thing that would be on my former science teacher Mrs. Chandlee’s desk every day. She was a science teacher at my middle school St. John the Beloved. She loved to drink coffee no matter what. She was always happy and nice, yet serious. She also had some real world experience with science that many people would think is cool. She is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had.
Every single day Mrs. Chandlee was always happy. No matter what she was happy; even after a funeral, she came back and was still cheery. She always was polite and lightened the mood at the end of the day for me. She would always have coffee with her, and she would have a thermos of it to refill. The one thing she rarely did was lose her temper. She never liked being angry or in a bad mood. That is one reason I think she is a great teacher.
Even though she was always nice and cheery, she was also always serious. She made class fun by helping us learn the material, but she was happy and funny the whole time. The way she would balance out fun with learning was perfect. We would never be too bored during her class, and we would always learn the material she was teaching. Since I had her class at the end of the day, it made things even better because it would be a great way to end the day. That is another reason why she is a great teacher.
Many people think their teachers are cool, because they travel around the world, can do certain things, but Mrs. Chandlee was an actual scientist. We all know and love Doritos or cool whip, but why do we love them? Because of their taste. Mrs. Chandlee helped to create the flavor for those famous foods. We always just think that our teachers are boring, but it was cool to know my science teacher was an actual scientist, and had real world experience in science. Most science teachers at middle schools are just regular teachers who read the material from a book. But she knew everything about what we were learning without the help of a book most of the time. That is another reason why she is an amazing teacher.
Overall, Mrs. Chandlee is my favorite teacher that I have had so far in my school career. I am going to miss the days of having her class, and doing the fun projects and assignments we did in her class. I hope that she wins the Educator of the Year Award, because she definitely deserves it for all her hard work. Those are some of the reasons why I think Mrs. Chandlee should win Educator of the Year.
