To be an American is to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Many people believe that America is the worst country because we’re wasteful and selfish or superficial but I’d argue the exact opposite. Life isn’t the same as it used to be 10 years ago, Americans are going greener and trying their best to live longer and healthier lives. An american works harder to take care of themselves, their kids and their work than the generation before them so the next won’t have to, America isn't just a place, America is an idea. An idea of wanting to fight for more in your life, and wanting more for your kids then what you had in your life. America isn’t a country of one religion or racial group, this “new world” isn’t made of one type of person but its made of all types of people from all walks of life and all types of backgrounds. Americans know the the pain and heartache it takes to work for something and make a better world for everyone.
America is a country of innovators, and to be an American is to be able to push through hardships and make a better world. Most countries believe the Americans are just wasteful nation of people who don’t care about this world or anything but ourselves, and in the words of Maureen Dowd in Liberties; Drill, Grill and Chill. “We’ll bake the earth. We’ll brown & serve it, saute it, simmer it, sear it, fondue it, George-Foreman-grill it.” in this quote Maureen Dowd explains how people are just killing the earth and how we are doing this willingly for some kind of pleasure for us. But this isn’t true. We are not trying to “bake the earth”; in todays’ world we have hybrid cars and hybrid engines and wind powder and our houses are powered by the sun. We are making more and more machines such and engines in our cars that can run off of corn or water instead of gas and these are the kind of little things that can help save our planet. Maureen Dowd’s point in her article was that we as a species are developing more technologie to make life easier for us. Which is true, but that does not mean that this makes us more wasteful because of our technology. In fact its exactly our technology that can be used to protect the earth. Everyday we are learning new ways to make machines and can work harder, faster and greener than they ever have before. And everyday we are working towards a bigger and better world for our kids and loved ones.

America is a country just like any other. We have 50 states and 7.046 billion of people in those 50 states and problems just like any other country. But there’s something special about this place. Something that makes people flock to it like a moth to a flame and when you are a true american in this amazing country of opportunity you may truly understand what makes this country great. I believe Edward L. Hudgins said it best in this article “ what is an american?” “An American is anyone who loves life enough to want the best it has to offer. Americans are not automatically satisfied with their current situation. My grandpop wanted to be more than a poor, landless tenant farmer, no better off than his ancestors. Americans look to more than the next meal; they look to the future, the long term, a better tomorrow.” In this quote the author is saying how Americans want to be more than one aspect of their lives and being an american isn’t just about the opportunities that this country has. Its about wanting to be something bigger and better than what you are now and going for it. It’s about being something bigger than anyone could ever see you as or yourself for that matter. And thats why millions of people come to this very special rock that we call home every year.
Once upon a time many year ago America was once just called the new world. the last undiscovered land on this earth, and so everyone from country to country to see this amazing new place that they could start anew and call it home. People from all over the world english men, simple country folk, africans, indians, australians and in return they are not just whatever country they came from or whatever religion they be, they are an american. De Crevecoeur- “ the American is a new man, who acts upon new principles; he must therefore entertain new ideas,”. In this quote De Crevecoeur is expressing how americans is not just one idea or religion or group, americans have many religions and ideas and groups so american men must be able to adapt to these new ideas and principles that he’s come to find in america and therefore the ideas of religions or social placements don’t matter so much here. Yes, most will still go with their religious groups no matter what, but that doesn’t mean that you must be with a certain person because of their religious beliefs, such as in Indian culture it says the woman must have an arranged marriage and must marry another indian man, but that’s not true here. Here you can do and marry who ever you want because you're an American.
To be an American takes more than some might want to think, and more then others might want to believe in. And being an American is more of a belief, a will to fight and win though all the hardships this world makes for us. Whether it be a fresh start at a new life or a new beginning at a old life. If you just work hard for your new life and your start you’ll be able to do or be whatever you want. Yes American is just a place and an American is just an idea, but that place and that title holds a even bigger and better weight to it. American means being able to want more for the next generation, and for yourself and for everyone you know and love. It means work and heartache but with it come victory and salvation. American means to be apart of something bigger than you could ever be and making the best place you can.
