Would you ever risk your life for someone? Most of the time, we think of lifesavers as superheroes or people in movies. For example, Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, is a hero. But little do we know, heroes are all around us. Policemen, firemen, and people in the army save peoples lives all the time. Let’s compare how policemen relate to Katniss.
First, Katniss and the heroes around us portray and extreme about of bravery. In The Hunger Games, Katniss says, “And right now, the most dangerous part of the Hunger Games is about to begin”. This tells us that she knows that what shes about to do is dangerous, but she is willing to do it anyway. Firemen definitely convey extreme courageousness. They go into burning buildings and risk their lives for people they don’t even know. A great example of this is on September 11, they went into the twin towers to save as many peoples lives as possible.
Next, Katniss and our everyday heroes are willing to risk their lives for other people. This is conveyed in The Hunger Games, “As Prim walks up to the stage, Katniss, in a panic, rushes forward and shouts that she is volunteering as tribute”. Katniss takes the place of her younger sister, by volunteering to fight in the games. Policemen convey this type of sacrifice, when they have to arrest dangerous people. Policemen risk their life to capture the criminal, so our lives aren’t put in danger.
Lastly, both of the heroes are willing to defend the lives of others. An example of this in The Hunger Games is when “Cato begins strangling him in a headlock. Cato threatens that if Katniss shoots him, Peeta will go over the side too. Peeta reaches to the gash the muttation left in his leg and draws an "X" in blood on Cato's hand. Cato realizes what he's doing just as Katniss shoots him, and when he lets go Peeta shoves him to the ground below”. This conveys that Katniss will fight for the good. In comparison, army men defend the lives of others everyday. They leave their families to fight for our freedom.
In conclusion, heroes aren’t just found in novels or movies. They are all around us. Heroes have one common trait, bravery. Through their everyday lives they are brave.
