Why we need more funding for ocean exploration

The Ocean is a very mysterious place with very mysterious and unknown things. We´ve only explored the surface and what it's offering to us. I believe we could discover new things about the ocean with more funding. A very important reason we need this funding is so we can find out more about species that we know so very little about. Scientists estimate that there could be 10 million species in the ocean and that's only the ones we know about. That's where the funding comes in, the only reason we can´t explore more of the ocean is cause of how intense the pressure gets it's impossible to go farther than that. But with funding, we can have deep-sea machines that can handle the pressure and go farther than any human could.

 The ocean also has a very important role in keeping the earth's climate stable. It stores tons of carbon dioxide that we put into the air. But we don´t know how much it can absorb and how it stores however much it takes in. Ocean exploration could help with this. The ocean takes in carbon dioxide but where does it go we don't know. But exploring deeper parts may give us an answer to that question. ¨ NASA in the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act for FY 2013 was 3.5 times higher than that allocated for NOAA. ¨ ( ETZIONI )They are giving 3-5 times more money to NASA to explore deep space than they are for the NOAA to explore the deep ocean.

 The government has suspicions that space might solve the earth's warming and they are partially correct space exploration has solved the problem of greenhouse gasses. But they have no viable solution from space and they have even thought about how the ocean might contribute to the earth's warming. They think they just need more time to research and hope they find something that will help. ¨it is already clear that the oceans offer a plethora of viable solutions to the Earth’s most pressing troubles. For example, scientists have already demonstrated that the oceans serve as a “carbon sink.” The oceans have absorbed almost one-third of anthropogenic CO2 emitted since the advent of the industrial revolution and have the potential to continue absorbing a large share of the CO2 released into the atmosphere. ¨  Strauss)

 Researchers for the NOAA have already found viable solutions to solve the earth's warming but the government still thinks space will have the answer we´ve all been looking for.

 Ocean researchers have already started on solutions to help the ocean hold more carbon dioxide. Phytoplankton plays a big role in holding carbon dioxide. But since we don't have the funding to research it we know very little about the species and where they might be located. ¨ a 2013 report that the absorption of CO2 is “acidifying” the oceans, recommended that “the administration and Congress should take actions to measure and assess the emerging threat of ocean acidification¨ (Kundis Craig) The government needs to find a new way to make energy cause the co² could destroy the ocean and if they do that they messed up and there's no possible way to come back from it. It would make it nearly impossible to explore any further than we already have unless we end up making submarines that can go through acid, and I don't think that'll happen for a very very long time.

Our oceans and waterways affect our weather, our atmosphere, where we live, what we eat and countless other aspects of our lives” (it just says NSF) These are only a few of the things that the ocean helps humans with and they also mention how we have explored and mapped out a ton of our surface but 80% of the ocean hasn’t been explored.

 The government gives more money to NASA and they have explored more of the moon than they have in the ocean, and yet the oceans still have cured more things than space has and they have found more ways to be creative and to better the ocean so we benefit. But the government can sometimes ignore the fact that something is 2x better than something else. Nobody talks about it, at least nobody can make a change because not everyone cares and not everyone listens. So if they want human life to go out faster be it.
