2022 Draft
The 2022 NFL Draft took place on April 28, 2022 at 8 P.M. EST in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year's draft was full of talent and explosiveness on both sides of the ball. Both New York teams went all out in the first round of the draft. The Giants came up with edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux from Oregon with the fifth overall pick. They also selected offensive tackle Evan Neal with the seventh overall pick. These two picks will help the Giants incredibly as they failed to protect Daniel Jones and rush the quarterback as well. The Jets on the other hand probably had the best first round out of the whole NFL. The Jets grabbed Cincinnati defensive back Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner with the fourth overall pick. Throughout his college career, Gardner played over 700 snaps and did not allow a single touchdown to be scored on him in any of those snaps. Now comes number 10 overall for the Jets. They selected receiver Garrett Wilson from Ohio State. Wilson was arguably the best receiver in the draft. You could argue Jameson Williams, Drake London, or even his Ohio State teammate Chris Olave who went right after him at pick 11 to the New Orleans Saints are top players for the position as well. And for the Jets final pick, they did have to give up some assets in the draft for it. At pick 26 the Tennessee Titans were getting ready to make a selection after they had just traded away star WR A.J. Brown, when a phone call came in from general manager Joe Douglas of the Jets. Douglas was able to swap third round picks, a fifth round pick, and second round pick for number 26 overall in the first round to take edge rusher Jermaine Johnson from Florida State. This was an incredibly smart move from Joe Douglas to take a top 5 edge rusher in this draft after missing out on Orgeon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux. In the past, the Jets have completely struggled to get to quarterbacks and force pressure in the backfield. With the addition of Florida State’s J.J. and the return of injured Carl Lawson, New York should have more than enough power on the outside edges to get to opposing quarterbacks. Besides the fact that there were an absurd amount of teams that had a superb draft, there were few that did not have a good draft, or had little draft capital to begin with. First of all, the New England Patriots. The Patriots binge-watched the first round of the draft with the third to final pick in the draft. With many positions needed like a running back, and some key secondary pieces, the Patriots shocked the world and took center Cole Strange. Probably the most surprising pick in the draft if one had to decide. The impact the 2022 draft class should have on the upcoming NFL season is going to be fun to watch. Although most of the teams that has great drafts were not so good in the previous seasons, it will still be great and exciting to watch these young talented rookies show off their skills, and show the impact they can make to their assigned teams that drafted them. The 2022 NFL Draft class was full with superstars from pick one all the way until pick number 256, and will have a great impact on the NFL in the upcoming season in 2022-23.
