My Grandma's Kitchen
The walls were yellow, her favorite color
Full of pictures of our family
Together we made orange juice cookies, an old family recipe
I spent the summers in that kitchen
Where my grandpa would cut my toast into a different shape everytime
Where I would come in for a glass of water
after playing outside by the pond all day, pretending I was mermaid
I would sit and the island and you would tell me you loved every picture I made
Even though they all looked the same
Whenever we played hide a seek you always acted surprised to find me
Even though I hid in the pantry every time
And at the table we played all my favorite card games
Uno, Go Fish, and Old Maid, you would always let me win
I didn't know it at the time but the memories in that kitchen would last a lifetime
