I'm Not Scared
Can anyone tell me
Why I’m not scared?
I should be terrified,
But still . . .
Fear is not
A casual thing
To be called up at will.
But why?
Why am I frightened
Of not being afraid?
Do I enjoy the terror
Of a distraught, unsensible
Emotion?
No, not at all
Do I want to be rendered
Immobile
By the fears that
Hold me down?
There is no truth to that.
But maybe I’m scared
Of not being scared
Because fear
Is the one thing
That keeps
me
sane
