The pine trees sway in the breeze

as it weaves through their branches.

Needles drop, making a soft surface

to set up camp near the water's edge.

Sunshine dawns upon the glass-like surface on the lake.

Dew drops refract the sunlight, forming a glossy blanket on the grass.

The call of the hawk shatters the air

as it flies high, searching for prey.

We wander around the forest,

in search of fatwood.

Arranging the fatwood in a pyramid,

the top of each piece meeting at the top.

We use dry pine needles to ignite the fire,

flicking the match against the red phosphorus and powdered glass.

As the fire crackles, it showers small, orange embers

through the air like small fireworks.

Once the fire starts to die down,

we lay a juicy ribeye down on the hot coals,

along with some morels that we had gathered.

The aroma lingers throughout the campsite.

The horizon grabs the sun and pulls it below the trees,

casting bronze shadows over the lake.

Waves crash against the rocky bluffs,

as we doze off in the pure bliss.
