a thousand miles for one
only one of these thousand
thoughts that plague my mind
keeps me going, enticing me
to walk these thousand miles
counting my steps, bake under
the intensity of a sun overhead
overflowing with hope, and
drown in the tears that the sky
cries for me every time i suffer a
violent storm of heartbreak
time and time again,
i ‘m forced to stop and rest
(wishing i could give up)
still i continue my pilgrimage
because something tells me
all my searching will be well
worth it in the very end,
that spark of uncertainty
in everything i do or say,
the absolute knowledge that
one in a thousand smiles is real
like a sharp needle in a rotting
haystack, the one that can truly
pierce a heart with love if found,
only one in a thousand
and it just
has
to be
somewhere
around
here.
maybe.
