The Bus That Did Not Come
She sat there
In the silence of the early morning sun
Alone she waited
And waited
and waited
But the bus did not come.
She sat there
In the roar of the Friday afternoon traffic
Alone she waited
And waited
and waited
But the bus did not come.
She sat there
In the moaning of the late night drizzling breeze
Alone she waited
And waited
and waited
But the bus did not come
So she went home.
In the howling windy darkness
the bus came
But she was not there
She was at home
Crying softly in her bed
For the bus that did not come.
So it went on
and on
and on
Without her.
But in the silence of the early morning sun
She heard the news
About that bus
That crashed
With no survivors
The bus that came and went without her.
And she shivered in silence of the day.
