City Girl
She looks like death,
Wrapped up in a smoky haze,
A cigarette between her lips,
Blood red, making
Little seductive puffs.
And she’s looking like a black and white photo,
Just a girl in a big city,
Elegantly trashy,
Conspicuous but modest.
She leans back against that wall
Beside that busy street,
Staring at nothing,
Contemplating her freedom.
Wonder who she’s waiting for, or
Maybe she’s got no place to go at all.
