Inner and Outer Pain
Inner and Outer Pain
I sit shackled by my ankles and wrists,
while the blissful thought of death is hard to
resist.
We’re all trapped down here by chains and
fear.
The waves of the ocean are all I hear.
It’s hard to think. It’s hard to feel.
I sit dreaming of home, wondering if this is real.
I begin to suffocate, half by unbearable heat
and half by heartbreak.
I fight the urge to die so hard my knees
shake.
I will win this battle and live to say,
“That was the first day that I suffered from inner and outer pain.”
Dedicated to the character “Muhammad” from, The Glory Field, who inspired this poem
