yesterday wont let go

my body rests on the soft grass
my eyes gaze up at the sky
and my heart remembers all those years
that spread their wings and flew by
my body is already out the door
my eyes are glancing towards the next day
and my heart is still lingering-
still refusing to begin growing gray
my body remembers the smiles and joy
my eyes glimpse at reminders of the years
and my heart clearly recalls all those
confessions followed by heartfelt tears
my body embraces the warmth
my eyes fight against the snow
and my heart full of sorrow reminds me
how yesterday just wont let go
