Husbands sigh upon the bills and rub their eyes in anguish
Clorox-scented housewives work to toil over dishes
People live the days of life and work upon their chores
Children do their homework in a million homes or more

Perpetually glowing windows housing haggard, drunken men
Women dance in corridors and children jump on beds
People live the days of life, leisure worth their best
All of which is happening in a million homes, no less

All the houses on the street are lined with endless deeds
Movements, thoughts, and actions growing upon need
People live the days of life, infinite in their woes
Sorrow thrives in a million times; “So it goes.”

I get this same thought every time I'm riding in the car at night and see all the glowing windows.

Funny... I think about these things every time I see homes at night too :]

I'm really impressed that you put this into words... extremely well-written!

Hey, thanks. =)

That's cool that we have some things in common! Johnny Depp, I have to say, is an obsession. So is Jane Eyre. My favorite book of all time. So far. :D

I like your style of poetry, it flows really well. Do you write a lot of poetry or are you more of a short story kind of person?
