"Numquam finitur, donec vita finiatur."
- K. D'Angelo Alexander

The end has come, for both you and I

Only one second until Midnight

Why do the mistakes of other men

Have to cause our sweet romance to end?

A world in peril, from lust and greed

Just one more minute, is all I need

When the Clock strikes Twelve, we’ll all be gone

And now I pray to not live that long

But I could never leave you, my dear

When Midnight arrives, I want you near

Men in suits scatter, as they hurry

Lying to themselves, to not worry

But all their actions are in vain;

The Clock has started a New Day

Skies across the globe are alight

With the burning flames of Midnight

The author's comments:

This poem depicts the emotions of a man in a world not so distant as the Doomsday Clock strikes midnight, signaling a catastrophic nuclear exchange that has ended the world. It is somewhat of a love-poem, and a warning to mankind that at only ninety-seconds until midnight, we are not all that far off from extinction.
