Consciousness
When foggy quiet evenings fall
When Heaven hovers low
And almost imperceptibly
My heart beats soft and slow
When my world slows to imitate
The sleepy summer rain
In tender sacred harmony
With all that God has made
I cannot see or hear you now
Or touch your fingertips
But even when the sky is dark
I know the sun exists
Invisible, intangible
And precious as the air
Familiar as the rising sun
I breathe, and you are there
