Elegance Is Black and White MAG

Elegance is black and white, shine of lamplight
on smooth wood, glossy, flat keys giving way
to agile fingers gliding up and down,
maneuvering and racing from side to
side. Notes jump from sheets onto keyboard, hands
span octaves, so this is what classiness
is. Vase of roses stands on piano
lid—fresh red petals on slender green stems
on simple black and white, colors vibrant,
distinct. Next to roses, Beethoven's bust
stares sternly down at me: inspiration,
genius, power. In these sacred moments,
air pulsates with energy, I feel alive.
