Well Dad... I love you.
Well Dad, you found my note
I’m already long gone
In between us, a wide moat
I took that giant leap
Nearly flipped over in the process
But I made it, I’m out
I’m in amongst the sheep
I know when you read it
You will remember times before
Bad times and times full of galore
You’ll remember our discussions
In the car and when I did my chores
Or maybe you won’t
Your memory just ain’t the same
You might grow a tear in your eye
I know I got a full garden
Boy does time fly
You know I’m more like you than you think
I think like you, but I won’t admit it
I actually like math, sort of
And organizing those dishes from the sink
I’m no rocket scientist and I’m no engineer
I’m an artist, of all careers
But have no fear, silly Dad
You laughed when I danced
But I laughed when you tried
I smiled when you spoke
And after awhile, probably closed my eyes
But no matter, dear Father
I love you so deeply
And your dedication in your first book…
Well, you’re right.
I have loved you, do love you, will love you
Beyond your burnt out memory comprehension
So don’t you forget that
Oh, I almost forgot
Thanks for all you’ve taught me
Thanks for the advice
And to be precise
Thanks for everything
