The Trees
I used to see the dancing trees as though they were alive
They’d leap and bend and swirl in the wind to my childish delight
I’d go on happily, without a doubt, into the game of life
We played and played, those children and I, and into the night we laughed and cried
And home I came with teary eyes and a heart that proved too heavy
Later that night I slid to the side, the door which held the truth from my eyes
And watched the lifeless trees abroad, those leafless trees of misery
