Dear God
Dear God
She ugly, he say
But ain’t no stranger to hard work
She ain’t smart, he say
But she can work like a man
She ain’t fresh either, spoiled twice, he say
But God done fixed her
You can do everything just like you want to, he say.
She won’t make you feed her or clothe her.
She good with children too.
She will give them dis and give them dat.
But she has to be watched, she tell lies, he say.
Dear God, I have been always been a good girl
I know I’m not as pretty or as smart as Nettie, but I ain’t dumb.
Nettie keep on saying, “You gotta fight, you gotta fight”.
But God, I don’t know how to fight.
All I can do is stay alive. Alive
As long as I can spell G-O-D, I got somebody.
This will certify that the above work is completely original."
