Rollerblades
“Will you come and help me?”
Your little voice asked,
Innocent and scared
One afternoon.
You wanted to rollerblade
To be like your big brother
Who played street hockey
With his friends.
I strapped the plastic together
While you held onto me
Scared for your life
That you would fall.
You did fall, a couple times,
But I told you to keep going
Because even really good rollerblade –ers (like your brother)
Fell all the time.
Now you play street hockey
Just like your brother
And I’m proud because
I taught you how to rollerblade
