As the sun reaches its favorite spot directly above my head,
The twinkle of stars on a deep blue night sky stare back at me.
Those eyes that aren’t part of the real world.
Where chloroform is the only thing keeping them from exploring.

The twinkle of stars on a deep blue night sky stare back at me
When our pupils grow and the light enters through the darkness
Where chloroform is the only thing keeping them from exploring.
5 A.M. happiness, not insomnia.

When our pupils grow and the light enters through the darkness
There you are again, smiling like this youth of sunrise
5 A.M. happiness, not insomnia.
I taste you in the repetition of sun on my shoulders.

There you are again, smiling like this youth of sunrise
I’m not there to see it anymore.
I taste you in the repetition of sun on my shoulders.
I miss the fuchsia traces on my lips.

I’m not there to see it anymore,
Those eyes that aren’t part of the real world.
I miss the fuchsia traces on my lips
As the sun reaches its favorite spot directly above my head.

Pantoums, even if not in iambic pentameter like this one, offer a really cool and unique form with organized yet scattered repetition. I chose this form for this poem to show how the loss of a loved one never stops, but keeps repeating through memories and pain.
