Paper Heart
Your heart is tattered
And torn at the edges
The words that made you have faded
Your paper heart cannot feel.
So you pretend that it can
You deny that
The soft skin that envelopes your heart
Has only been touched
By a world of people
Who don’t really see you
When your family cries out
For love from your heart
Cold from money
You stand motionless
For you can’t buy their happiness
You are throwing every coin that you have
Every breath you have left
And every one of ours-
Into the world
But despite your small investments
It has nothing to give you
Because no amount of wishing
And paying
Could make me love you again
