Be Careful, There's No Sun Out Tonight
The midnight road of dust and dark
Crawls into space, alone
While trees and other unseen beings
Watch from the roadside home
The headlights shine, two swords of light
Cut through the misty night
Two eyes shine from the depths
Of a blackened, hooded fright
SCREECH! the tires scream and flee
Into the flashing underbrush
Away from that haunting gaze
The silent phantom's image crushed
Breathing hard, unbelieving
What was seen? A trick, a dream?
Shaking head, look out the window
"Are you alright?" comes a stranger's plea
"I'm fine" reassurance comes
Before you pull into reverse
The stranger waves, and walks away
Into the lightless universe
The midnight road of dusk and dark
And a stranger's passing wave
A stranger's wink, demonic eyes
Glinting from the day's grave
Where trees and unseen beings
Are never far from home
