An Angels's Lullaby
there was a poor little angel
born to a crack whore.
she didnt mean much to her mother,
but oh this baby was adored!
taken in the loving arms of her grandmother,
she was the one little star amongst disaster in the world.
growing up she was quiet and afraid
but she had forgiveness toward her mother,
and the problems she had made.
every night before she closed her eyes
she'd look to see grandma right by her side.
to gently lay her down to sleep
singing an angel's lullaby that sounded so sweet.
she sang:
beautiful girl,
through love you were conceived.
i love you from the top of your head
right down to your feet.
remember what im saying
store it in your heart.
no matter what happens you are loved
i thank god in heaven for sending you from above.
so close your eyes
and dont be afraid
you have goodness surrounding you
where ever you are laid.
no matter what you do,
ill love you just the same.
weeks turned to months
and soon years passed by.
then came annual check up time.
tragically this little one got more bad news.
the doctor diagnosed her with leukemia,
she didnt know what to do.
her grandma got a second job
to pay for hospital bills.
and reports kept coming,
never better,
this little girl just got so ill.
the little angel started losing her hair
days became dreary
all hopes were impaired.
but through all the tears,
and ongoing fears.
grandma tucked her in every night,
sitting there right by her side.
to gently lay her down to sleep,
singing an angel's lullaby that sounded so sweet.
it goes:
beautiful girl,
through love you were conceived.
i love you from the top of your head,
right down to your feet.
remember what im saying,
store it in your heart.
no matter what happens you are loved,
i thank god for sending you from above.
so close your eyes,
dont be afraid.
you have goodness surrounding you,
where ever you are laid.
no matter what happens,
ill love you just the same.
two years came and went,
with not much improvement.
poor old grandma,
knew the fight was being won by the sickness.
so she dished out twice as many hugs,
and filled everyday with kisses.
through that their love grew stronger,
as well as their dependence on each other.
to the little angel,
grandma was the only mother she ever knew.
and as for grandma,
loving someone was all she wanted to do.
the little girl fell unconscious on day,
on the playground at school.
now hooked up on wires,
both of them had tears in their eyes.
the little angel looked up and said,
"grandma im going to die."
a few mornings later,
right around nine.
her breathing was limited,
she didnt have much time.
grandma sat beside her,
prepared to say goodbye.
she began to gently lay her down to sleep,
one final time.
singing her angel's lullaby,
that sounded so sweet.
she sang:
beautiful girl,
through love you were conceived.
i love you from the top of your head,
right down to your feet.
always remember what im saying,
store it in your heart.
no matter what happens,
you are loved.
i thank god in heaven,
for sending you to me from above.
so close your eyes,
and dont be afraid.
you have goodness surrounding you,
where ever you are laid.
its okay to go now,
i will love you just the same.
the sweet little angel,
took her last breath.
and with a kiss on the forehead,
the little angel is dead....
