Talk
Talk
Forty minutes a day,
Lunch begins.
Where 300 students gather
And disperse in to groups.
Groups divided according to
gender,
interests,
income.
The lunch room,
Voices begin to fill the silent room.
“Did you hear what she did on Friday night?”
Weekend talk is always on Monday.
Constant noise,
Harmless talk.
“Did you finish that math project?”
Those nerds, always talking about homework.
Constant noise,
Sports talk.
“The Brewers won against the cardinals”
Those boys who are obsessed with their sports team.
Constant noise,
Gossip talk.
“This is what I heard…”
Those girls who never seem to realize they’re always gossiping.
Talk,
Words carelessly tossed around.
Talk in the lunch room,
For forty minutes a day.
