Behind it.
Behind this shell, I am nothing.
You’d think I’d have another layer,
But that was torn years back.
Behind this exterior I am crying,
For what I had,
But now I lack.
Behind this figure,
I am mourning,
Because the pain won’t go away.
Behind this stature,
I am small and timid,
Hoping just to last the day.
Behind these ears,
Is everything I’ve ever heard,
But am never to repeat.
Behind these eyes,
Are judgments.
On everyone I meet.
Behind this smile,
Is the sadness,
I could never show.
Behind this name,
Is a wanderer,
With no place to go.
Within this heart,
Is the knife you threw,
A wound that never healed,
An anger that inside me stews,
A hate that just won’t yield.
