Karma
The day I throw this ball and chain
down the garbage disposal
and listen, smiling, to the grinding and crunching
will be the day your smile will break
in half on your face
and, in between your left and right lung,
you will feel that same grinding and crunching,
the breaking and shattering of innocence
the dead weight of hopelessness
and I will walk away
drying my eyes
just as yours begin to fill.
